  • “The Comedy” could be so bad it’s good

The new Tim Heidecker film The Comedy isn’t getting great reviews. In fact it’s getting such negative responses from advance screenings that it’s come around full circle to become something of curiosity. People want to watch the trainwreck.

In theaters on November 16th (and VOD on October 24th), the flick stars Heidecker as goalless Brooklyn hipster about to inherit his father’s estate even though he’s spent his entire life goofing off with his two buddies. Whom are played by his partner in crime Eric Wareheim and LCD Soundsystem mastermind, James Murphy.

A new trailer for the flick has hit the web that’s capitalizing on the negative press tossed in its direction. Read More

Beverly Hills Cop could be coming to the small screen

We might get ourselves a TV version of the legendary Eddie Murphy comedies. Word on the street is that Sony Pictures and Murphy are shopping around a small screen version of Beverly Hills Cop.

The show is being described as an hour-long crime procedural with comic elements in which Murphy will Executive Produce with Shawn Ryan.

No other details are currently known but in a November 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, Murphy briefly mentioned that he’d be more interested in a TV show of the Cop series since none of the scripts for a 4th movie appealed to him. He also stated that if there were to be a television version of the series it would focus on the son of Axel Foley with him reprising the original role of papa Axel a few times throughout the series. Center Stage: James Adomian

Last summer Janeane Garofalo shot a “What the fuck?” face my way as we walked past each other on Second Avenue in Manhattan’s East Village. It wasn’t anything I was doing. The brilliant comedian James Adomian was shouting into my microphone with an intensity and hilarity reminiscent of a young Robin Williams. I was interviewing Adomian for a feature on comedy podcasting, a universe in which he is a bright shining star. Read More

Abby Elliott lands a role on “How I Met Your Mother”

Need more proof Abby Elliott has left Saturday Night Live? Well this should do it…

Not long after it was first revealed she was leaving SNL, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Elliott has landed a recurring role on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother. Elliott will reportedly play Janeane, a “crazy” girl who catches the eye of one of the characters. Though she won’t appear on the show until the second half of the season in 2013, Elliott will reportedly appear in multiple episodes in what is being described as an “arc.”

It’s unknown how/if her new gig the CBS hit sitcom will affect her role in FOX’s pilot Ben Fox Is My Manny, which she reportedly scored the lead in. Regardless, it looks like Elliott’s career after SNL is off to a good start.

Jimmy Kimmel on Jay Leno, “F-ck Him!”

Jimmy Kimmel sat down with Bill Carter an author whose documented the late night television wars pretty closely and authored two books about it (The Late Shift and The War for Late Night) for an interview in front of a live audience in NYC and he didn’t really seem to have any problems letting his thoughts on Jay Leno fly.

The two discussed the recent announcement that his show Jimmy Kimmel Live would be moving its timeslot to directly compete with the aging late nighters Jay Leno and David Letterman. Kimmel stressed his love and admiration for Letterman stating he idolized him growing up. But when the topic came to The Tonight Show’s host Jay Leno he didn’t really need much time to think of a decision. Read More

The Riverboat Gamblers wrote a song about comedians

Austin, Texas sons of punk rock, The Riverboat Gamblers just released the video for their song “Comedians.” The entire clip is more docile than the band’s usual self, but the song’s overall tone is darker than usual.

It also seems to be the blueprint day in the life of a comedian. I’m thinking with any luck this song could get co-opted and become the official theme song for all comics. That’s a thing right? Kinda like “Eye Of The Tiger” is the official theme song for Boxers. Yeah, it’s a thing. Read More
