  • Christina Applegate hosted Saturday Night Live: 20 years later

It’s been nearly 20 years since Christina Applegate last hosted Saturday Night Live back then she was young and portraying an oversexed daughter on Married With Children. It was also the first appearance of Chris Farley’s motivational speaker Matt Foley.

Now Applegate is a mother on the NBC sitcom Up All Night and a grown woman. As someone whose been doing this for years, a night of SNL should be a breeze. Turns out Applegate brought a female energy to the night we haven’t witnessed since Kristen Wiig. Applegate handled a lot more ensemble bits but they suited her well as the rest of the cast delivered their A-game. It was a big night for cast members Jason Sudeikis, Keenan Thompson, Taran Killam, and Nasim Pedrad. The newbies put out a mixed bag with Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong getting some good screen time. Tim Robinson was quiet this week which is different than he has been since he started this season while Aidy Bryant continues as the least seen new cast member.

    VP Debate Cold Open
The VP debate this week were so ridiculous there’s no way we wouldn’t have “Biden Time!” this week and Jason Sudeikis’ never disappoints when he does Joey B. Biden is big in real life and the only way to play him is as yelly as possible. Taran Killam does a pretty great grown Eddie Munster Paul Ryan and hopefully we’ll get a mocking of his latest workout pictures that just came to light for those look ridiculous. Finally, why not toss in what could possibly be one of the most random SNL cameos in a long time… Usain Bolt.

    Monologue
Applegate acknowledges her last appearance on the show nearly 20 years ago before kicking in a little musical number about our pre-holiday timeframe. For the second consecutive time, Sudeikis steals the scene with his Dane Cook impression. Applegate can sing, she can dance! She can talk to Muppets! This should be a fun night

    Gillette Masters of Style
How do we address the recent sentencing of Jerry Sandusky? We put him in this Gillette commercial spoof why not!? Another win in Sudeikis’ scorecard.
