  • SXSW Monday: Interviews in an arcade, IFC House, and Hype Hotel

Monday brought on different type of comedy fun as we spent the first part of our day hanging out with comedians and interviewing them while at Recess Bar where a few interviews turned into hours spent playing Golden Tee, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ms. Pac-Man, and SkeeBall.

We set up shop at the bar around noon and local Austin comedian Ramin Nazer was gracious enough to perform the on camera interviews for us. First up was a handful of great UCB players like Connor Ratliff, Shannon O’Neill, Keith Haskel, and Riley Soloner who stopped by for some early conversation about improv. After talking to us they had to head over to their own showcase to bid them adieu.

Eugene Mirman stopped by to talk to us next answering questions about Bob’s Burgers, his new album, and comedy. In the middle of the mix, our pal Joel Richardson from SXSW Radio also swung by to talk with some of the comedians.

The comedic mob of Nick Turner, Mark Normand, and Nate Bargatze all rolled into the bar shortly afterward for interviews, though things got competitive quickly once SkeeBall challenges were thrown down. Adam Cayton-Holland then swung by to get in on the challenge and Big Jay Oakerson played Ms. Pac-Man. We wrapped the day with the one and only Andres du Bouchet coming by to talk to Ramin. Then, while we had to head out to our next event, many of the comedians stayed behind to keep playing games. High ives all around.

We reconvened at the IFC Crossroads House where we got the best schwag of the week so far, mini-water bottles (hydrate people), for some spots by Mark Normand and Big Jay Oakerson.

After the IFC Crossroads House we rolled down to the Hype Hotel with a handful of comedians, and met up with Robert Kelly to eat some of the new Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos and a watch a live concert from Passion Pit.

    DLT’s for life!
