  • 30 Reasons We’ll Miss “30 Rock”

    30 Rock

For 7 years and 138 episodes Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and the rest of the 30 Rock entertained us. Tomorrow night the series will end its run and go quietly into the night. The idea for the show started off really different in Fey’s mind – she wanted it to be a news show with a conservative host (“Alec Baldwin if we could ever get him”) and she was the new producer assigned to right the sinking ship. While that initial pitch was rejected, Fey went back and re-wrote the show based on her experience as the first female head writer of Saturday Night Live and the characters that surround it. Baldwin agreed to the pilot and the rest is proverbial history, and also laid out in way more detail in her book, Bossypants. There’s also a really great history of the show by The AV Club.

With the show ending, we thought we’d look back and pick out 30 trends, running gags, jokes, memes, catchprases, character traits, and clips that we will miss about 30 Rock. Read More

8 Comedians to watch in 2013

    2013

We get exposed to a lot of comedy up here in the TLB Towers and over the years we’ve gotten the chance to watch some comedians rise and become bigger and bigger each year. Now that the beginning of 2013 is upon us we came up with a list of comedians that we think you must keep your eye on in 2013. Why are they on this list? Could be we think they’re the next one to breakout. Could be we think they’re going to have big year. Could be we’re excited about an upcoming special they’re releasing. Could be we just like them and want to offer them up some more cyber ink. Each are all at varying levels of their respective careers and each of them are comedians to keep an eye on in 2013.

With every list we make there’s someone that’s not going like what we do. But that’s what the comments section is for, use it. Or as others might say, write me or fight me! Read More

The Laugh Button’s Top 10 Comedy Albums of 2012

    Best Comedy Albums of 2012

The year is nearly over so it’s time to recap just how terrific 2012 has been for comedy. It’s always difficult to put together these lists because the medium is so subjective. If we wanted to, this list could be populated by a completely different handful of 10 comedians and we’d be totally fine with that. But we all gathered into a room to figure out what the best comedy albums were this year and this is what we came up with. Some selections represent comedians continuing to dominate the genre while others are snapshots of a moment specific to the comic’s life.

We’re also sure that not everyone will agree with every selection on this list so we invite you to debate and comment on your own favorites of the year in the comments. Read More

Saturday Night Live’s 20 best Christmas sketches

Tonight Saturday Night Live will air its Christmas special during prime time. It’s a collection of some of their favorite holiday-themes sketches of the last 38 seasons of the show. Rather than sit around and wait for them to tell us what they liked, we figured we’d make our own list of our favorite SNL Christmas-themed sketches.

The Christmas episode is always one that many look forward to. It’s usually fairly loaded with cameoes and has many people from the cast old and new drop by. For a great example, look no further than Jimmy Fallon’s hosting duties last year. This year they just announced that Martin Short and Paul McCartney will host so you know there’s a good chance for a pretty great show.

But in the meantime feel free to compare our list to the ones that will air tonight and we’ll bet ours are better. But then again, we’re biased because we think we’re damn awesome. Read More

Let’s all have an Arrested Development Thanksgiving

It’s Thanksgiving and we all know what that means, it means lots of travel, too much food, and way too much family interaction. Drunk uncles, strange aunts, creepy cousins, estranged brothers, grandma who smells, grandpa who might be slightly racist; sound like anyone you’ll be sharing a table with this weekend? Unless you’ve sensibly decided to spend the holiday by yourself on a beach, you can probably answer that question with a “yes.”

You might think that you are the only person on this planet with a dysfunctional family but everyone has a few black sheep in the family. This got us thinking… what family is more dysfunctional and loveable than The Bluths from Arrested Development? George and Lucile’s brood is pretty much dysfunction personified.

So before you belly up to the table with uncle Jimmy and aunt Carol for some mashed potatoes and turkey, let’s take this time to realize that it can always be worse and have ourselves an Arrested Development Thanksgiving. Read More

    21 Comedians in Commercials

When word broke earlier this week that Maria Bamford’s Christmas Champ was not going to be resurrected for Target ads this year, I have to admit… I was a little bummed. Not because I like advertisements, rather I dug Bamford’s completely off the wall weirdness and buffoonery toward the commercials. They were a welcome change to all the mushy holiday cheer that we’ll be subject to for about a month.

With that being said, with the magic of the internet and the power of Youtube we have the chance to dig up those commercials some comedians hoped would never surface again, others made instantly classic, and those that are somewhere in between.

Here’s a list of 21 commercials that were made better with the presence of comedians. Read More
