  • The Terrible Burt Wonderstone

The Incredible Burt WonderstoneThe Incredible Burt Wonderstone dropped into theaters this past weekend and when I say “dropped,” I mean “tanked.” Wonderstone stormed into theaters with an estimated 30 million dollar budget and opened in 3,160 theaters. Oh, and not to mention the movies two main characters are Steve Carell and Jim Carrey. Sure seems like the perfect recipe for a box-office hit, right? Apparently not, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone finished third in the weekend box office, only bringing in 10.3 million and some change. Ahead of Wonderstone were The Call at number two (also premiered on Friday, with a mere 13 million dollar budget) which brought in 17.1 million and Oz The Great and Powerful which finished first, bringing in 42.2 million for the weekend.

The last comedy released in theaters was 5 weeks ago (Identity Thief) and the 10.3 million start for Wonderstone was one of the worst debuts for Carell and Carrey ever. In theory the movie seems like it should have done better, yet once you sees the commercial, I think it’s easy to see why it tanked. It looked dumb, plain and simple and the critics largely agreed. The commercials portrayed two ridiculous, non-believable magicians having a competition for a big show deal. The jokes looked simple and predictable. The audience was most likely composed of Carrey and Carell faithful fans with not too many others venturing to see it. Read the rest of this entry

Beverly Hills Cop TV reboot picks up a familiar face

Beverly Hills CopWe shared the news back in August and what once was random thought, now becomes a reality. Beverly Hills Cop will continue its life, living in the form of a CBS television show. While Eddie Murphy has been attached to the project since the beginning as an executive producer while making a few early cameos as Axel Foley. In addition they’ve recently confirmed actor/comedian Brandon T. Jackson will star as Axel Foley Jr. Now we can add one more name into the mix as it was revealed that Judge Reinhold is said to have signed on for a cameo role reviving his old character as William “Billy” Rosewood.

To make it on air requires a new angle on an old story and the writers and producers might have found a way to achieve such success. Reported on multiple sites, the alleged pilot follows the story line of Axel’s son as he fights to bring down the corrupt in Beverly Hills. The more I read about this the more I like it. I’m sure Murphy and Reinhold will be able to rekindle old comedic flames and bring this old comedy to new generations. Read the rest of this entry

The Super Troopers sequel is happening, set to film this year

Alright, we know! It seems like every time you turn around, there’s a rumor about a Super Troopers sequel with every member from the cult film’s creators, Broken Lizard delivering details about what stage of development the movie is in. Well ramp up the rumor mill and recall the most recent update in August 2012 and add to it that Team Ramrod is happening and riding again in 2013. In an interview with Guyspeed.com, Kevin Heffernan aka “Farva” revealed the finished script was handed into FOX and they’re negotiating filming logistics but they’re eying for shooting in 2013.

The softer, child side of the Oscars (videos)

On the Official Comedy YouTube channel released the video, “Kid Oscars,” a great clip of kids re-enacting the movies nominated for Best Picture Oscars and it definitively appeals to the lighter side of life. It’s humor is soft of heart as it captures the kids delivering their take on classic moments from each nominated film.

The real Oscars were hosted by Seth MacFarlane but in the end these versions of the movies should’ve been the ones celebrated because they offered way more humor a long night of rich and famous people celebrating other rich and famous people by giving them gold statues needs.

What to expect of Seth MacFarlane as host of the Oscars

Seth MacFarlane hosts the OscarsIn my opinion, Seth MacFarlane is one of the funniest creators in the world as his views on comedy have guided him to great success. He created, directed, and acted in the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time (Ted) yet many critics are questioning his limited engagement in the movie industry. Even though he might not have a long film resume, he has an even longer history in creating public controversy.

In January he caught the media’s attention by cracking a Hitler joke while he was assisting Emma Stone announce the 2013 Oscar nominees. Only Seth can get away with something like this as he is known for his short wise cracks directed at targeted topical issues. His impulsiveness and bravery for making his opinion so loud are reasons why many people are wondering if this “laugh button pusher” will bring his famous styles to Hollywood’s big stage.

Seth is an vocal mouthpiece backing major topics such as gay rights. That’s one side of the coin. The other being known for the well timed racist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic joke. Looking at the Oscar nominees, Quentin Tarantino has multiple nominations for the movie Django Unchained, which is the heavy handed movie about violence in slavery. It makes me wonder, if Tarantino starts to win awards, will Seth call attention to the trend and ad-lib a few random blue rants? I hope so! Read the rest of this entry

Jesse Heiman is probably the world’s most popular sitcom and movie extra

    Jesse Heiman

It was Super Bowl Sunday when every nerd in America was given one very strong message “anything is possible.” It was February 3rd, when GoDaddy released a (for some reason) controversial commercial, “Perfect Match.” Long story short, the camera zooms awkwardly close in on a supermodel Bar Refaeli making out with a nerdy looking guy.

Now, I say controversial not because of any huge slam or questionable remarks but because many people for some reason found the ad of two people kissing plain old disgusting. On the other side, I’m sure the nerds of the world loved it! Getting to cheer one of their fellow geeks to live the moment they’ve all dreamed about. Yeah, in some ways this is a true ‘feel good’ story. Until you find out this nerd, otherwise known as Jesse Heiman. Or as you could call him… the world’s greatest extra, a movie star in nerd camouflage perhaps. Read the rest of this entry
