This Sunday at 11pm, [adult swim] will premiere it’s latest comedy, Black Dynamite. The show is a cartoon adaptation of the absolutely hilarious 2009 live action movie of the same name. It was a dead-on send up of he 70′s Blacksploitation movie genre centered around a title character of the same name. The movie worked in it’s true to form interpretation of the genre, with ridiculous scenarios and lines delivered as seriously as any stage-actor’s monologue.

No on encapsulated the mood better than Michael Jai White in the title role. Given how straight he played the character, I’m sure there’s some amazing blooper reel floating around out there with Jai White loosing it after certain takes because of the seriousness of it. The film is the complete package because it’s right on the money with the tone of the time. With wardrobe, dialogue, set, action, slapstick being deliberately where they need to be.

The idea of converting a movie like this takes a special people to properly capture the vibe. By incorporating the creative team behind another great animated series The Boondocks there’s a good chance the success of the new show will secured. The first glimpse at the TV show seems to capture all the elements and seems bent on enhancing them to levels that can only be done by animating it. It also helps a few key players are coming on board to voice the series as well and the addition of funny actors like J.B. Smoove to voice roles.
