The headline pretty much says it all, the daytime comedian has announced her departure from the popular FOX reality TV show to focus on her show and free up her schedule for her talk show and other ventures.
Oh, and she didn’t like having to be too critical of people’s performances. Rather than just be negative, she’d rather encourage them and nurture their careers. Well, she does have a record label and already signed that kid that sang Lady GaGa so her dreams of being a record mogul are still in tact, for now.
DeGeneres released this statement…
“A couple months ago, I let FOX and the “American Idol” producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on “Idol” and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”
We’re not terribly surprised by this news, mainly because Ellen didn’t bring much to the judges table that the other three weren’t capable of doing. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if later down the road we find out there wasn’t a contract renewal and this is a save face effort on Ellen and the AI producers.
Wait! I mean, we know nothing about American Idol…we don’t watch it. When it’s on the air we do manly things like go into the garage and hang sheet rock!
