If you thought electing the Terminator as governor was strange, meet comedian Jon Gnarr Kristinsson. For those not familiar with the Icelandic stand up comedian, if you meet him from now on you can address him as Mr. Mayor.

Kristinsson started a satirical political party called “The Best Party” last November which made fun of the political incompetence of the current people in power.

Much to the surprise of those involved The Best Party picked up steam and became a full fledged political movement, snagging the mayoral victory in the nations capital of Reykjavik on the joke platforms of free towels in swimming pools and promising a polar bear for the city zoo.

His Best Party also produced this snappy music video which uses the tune of Tina Turner’s Simply the Best to mention all of the problems of the country.

Jon Gnarr said his victory was reflective of people’s discontent with there leaders following the 2008 bank crash. Regardless of how he got elected, Kristinsson has high hoped for his term saying

“I love this city very much so I really want to do a good job. I will keep my humor and use it to my advantage. It is my aim to be International Mayor of the Year for 2012.

I wonder if this means Lewis Black for President isn’t just a pipe dream anymore?
