When the news of NY congressman Anthony Weiner’s “Weinergate” broke, Jon Stewart found himself in a bit of a dilemma. The story was ripe for the mocking on The Daily Show but the host, being friends with Weiner (post-college, Stewart was roommates with the congressman’s then girlfriend) was put in the conundrum of how to defend his buddy but still mock the big news story and maintain the integrity of the show. On Monday, Stewart’s first attempt was seen as, um, too soft.

So last night, to silence the critics, Stewart went right for the jugular with a pretty hilarious mock press conference (live from a Motel 6 in Hackensack, NJ) mimicking the congressman’s mannerisms as he apologized for his coverage. What wasn’t expected was during the maylay, Stewart cut himself and began to bleed during the bit.

As the bit went on, Stewart and John Oliver muscled through it but there was definitely some ad-libbing going on. Perhaps the best being John Oliver basically telling Stewart to stop whining that it was just a scratch.
