The Laughing Devil, New York’s newest comedy club, is set to officially open its doors on Friday, December 16th. Among the club’s first performers will be Victor Varnado, Steve Hofstetter, Joe Larson, Harrison Greenbaum, Ash Louis, Matt Baetz, Liz Miele, and Dave Goldstein.
Located on Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, the club sports fourteen delicious brews on tap and a state of the art audio/visual system. A very intimate 50-seat space will feature the best and brightest comedians from around the world on a regular basis. Not to mention, it’s only one stop on the 7 train out of Grand Central.
As the club’s website reads, “The Laughing Devil believes that comedy is art, and art is clever – we uniformly reject tired comics looking for an outlet to test the limits of vulgarity.” For this reason, audiences can be sure to receive a creative and entertaining show each night. Not to mention, three of the owners are working comedians so…yeah, it’s awesome.
The club boasts of its comedian friendly policies. Not only does the new space intend on being a hangout spot for comedians, it offers them staff prices on drinks—even if they’re not scheduled to perform that evening.
Steve Hofstetter, comedian and part-owner of The Laughing Devil, has seen a variety of support from several of his fellow comedians. We asked him about how it’s been going, “It’s been fantastic. We’ve got comedians coming in almost every day helping paint, do construction – hell, a few of them even showed up at our liquor license hearing.” Hofstetter told us. “And we’ve already gotten well wishes from Zach Galifianakis, Michael Ian Black, Todd Barry, and a number of other names.”
Hofstetter describes his excitement. “Imagine – owning your own comedy club 20 feet from your door in the town where you were born. Hard to beat that.” It almost seems like the American dream—for a comedian, anyway—that and a lead role in a new network sitcom that’s title is just your name with exclamation points.
It’s nice to hear that comics are out there literally building comedy clubs. Like the other supporters Steve mentioned, The Laugh Button would also like to wish him and the The Laughing Devil well.
