  • Dane Cook’s New Movie Will Premiere At SXSW

I thought Dane Cook gave up the whole acting thing? Anyway, he’s in a new movie called Detention which stars Dane-o as the principal of Grizzly Lake High School.

The film seems kinda teen indie comedy mixed with a modernized version of Scream-esque slasher flick. And like it’s title, there’s ya know, detention that needs to be served, so maybe it’s part Breakfast Club as well?

The film is set to premiere at SXSW with screenings on March 13, March 15, March 16 and March 18 during the film portion of the festival. There’s even a Facebook page you can “like” to get more updates.

Donald Trump Fires The First Shot At His Roasters

Donald Trump has done what I can only describe as an act of war against the comedians that are set to flame him for his upcoming roast on Comedy Central.

Ya see, one of the things people love mocking The Donald for is his hair, that long, weirdly flowing, wildly outrageous mane of hair.

Always the master negotiator, he took what took what could potentially be an Achilles heel for him with the roasters and removed it from the equation. Yes, he shaved his head (according to this video). Read the rest of this entry

TJ Miller To Become An Assistant

T.J. Miller has been cast as one of the title characters in a CBS pilot called The Assistants.

Miller is to play DJ one of four assistants who works for a famous celebrity couple, the other 3 assistants haven’t been picked yet but Miller can handle the duties of being a funny character because we have the impression that’s the type of guy he is all the time.

Reports are The Assistants will be traditional sitcom style, shot multicamera and come from executive producer Tucker Cawley, whose worked on Everybody Loves Raymond, Men of a Certain Age, and Parks and Recreation. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum of The Tannenbaum Co. and CBS Studios will also exec produce.

We’re thinking Miller should recreate the audition tape he did for the Yogi Bear movie, it was the funniest thing about that flick.

UPDATE: Emily Rutherfurd has been cast as another assistant.

This Week In Comedy: Where’s Oscar’s Funny Bone?

I’m sure today will be full of commentary about last night’s Academy Awards show. Though I’m not nearly qualified to comment on dresses worn by the actresses, I will ask this one question that many in the comedy community asked previously…why doesn’t the Academy recognize funny? They recognize all other achievements in film, drama, foreign, animated, and shorts. But why is it that when it comes to comedy time and time again people aren’t rewarded for their humorous moments in film?

It’s not that comedy is “easy” per say, when a funny movie turns out to not be, well its painful. In fact, I would make the argument that comedy is the toughest type of movie to make because so much rides on it just being funny. Take a movie like Avatar or Tron 2 for example…many critics used phrases like visually stunning to describe these films, even if they weren’t thrilled with the story or plot, they somehow managed to make the film still appealing. What do critics do when a movie isn’t funny? Most of the time, the only things a comedy has going for it is the funny, so a lot is riding on the actors to make it work. We all know when it does, and we all know (unfortunately) when it doesn’t. Read the rest of this entry

Hey! Hannibal Buress Made A Cameo On 30 Rock

Hannibal Buress shows up in the best of places. He’s been a writer on 30 Rock for a while now but on last night’s episode he got some TV time as a homeless person in a particularly funny scene in which Liz Lemon tries to tell a newly hired TGS female actress to tone down the overtly girlie behavior.

Buress doesn’t have much to say in the scene but damn if the lines he delivers aren’t the funniest part of the scene.

    Watch homeless Hannibal now.
