Rob Delaney to self-release his stand-up special on September 4th
Rob Delaney will follow in the footsteps of some big name comedians such as Aziz Ansari, Louis C.K. and Jim Gaffigan, when he releases his stand-up special digitally on September 4th via his website. The special, Live at the Bowery Ballroom, will be sold for $5 a download.
Delaney credits this opportunity to his large Twitter following (555,000). Delaney stated, “I’m going to try to step up a level and see if that works out. All signs point towards this being a good decision, and we will soon find out if it is. There’s no way to fail. What’s bad? I have to go do more standup to make more money? Great. There’s nothing I’d rather do.”
Like many of today’s most popular comedians, Delaney has found the key to success that he will be delivering in his new stand-up: truth. “My favorite comedy has elements of alchemy, in turning painful life things into funny, relatable stories,” he said. “By telling the truth, even if you squeeze it into a funny mold, its essence is still stuff that you really care about.” Delaney hopes to reach out to a broader audience by sharing his own experiences, even exploiting his own pain. If it helps boost his career and makes the people relate to him and laugh, then why not?
