Ron White Starts Own Record Label & Set To Star In Sitcom On USA
Things are looking pretty good for one Mr. Tater Salad (aka Ron White). Not content on being simply on of the top five touring comedians in the past four years (Pollstar), the Texas born funny man wants to wear a few more hats. After gaining major mainstream comedy success with several highly popular solo albums, as well as the Blue Collar Comedy Tour (which did so well it might as well give you the right to print money), the scotch-sipping-cigar-chomping comedian is parlaying that success into some impressive new ventures.
First White dropped a million bucks out of his pocket in order to start his own record label with producer Michael Blakey. The new venture is called Organica Music Group (OMG) and will sign a slew of new comedic and musical acts. Blakey, who was the former President of 2k/Virgin Records Music Division and a 5-time Grammy nominee, will be responsible for signing all of the musical acts. While White, who has several platinum records to his name, will head up the comedy branch of OMG.
This could prove to be a huge win for White. Considering if his eye for talent is as sharp as his comedic delivery, this could make him catch up to fellow Blue Collar companions Larry the Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy in the list of wealthiest comedians.
If running a record label wasn’t enough, White is also gearing up to star in his own thirty minute sitcom on the USA network. Titled Driver, the show stars a main character (White) who loses his job and opens up a limousine service…Sure. The concept doesn’t give me much assurance, but if there is any duo that can make it work, its Ron White and the USA network which has rocketed as the number one cable network amidst an arsenal of hour long light dramas.
White is in good company starting his record label. Comedienne Ellen Degeneres recently opened up her own label called eleveneleven, and let’s face it, if Ellen is doing it you know it is a good idea.
