This past March, comedian Mike DeStefano passed away from a fatal heart attack. It was a blow to the comedy community that left many upset yet proud of the comedian who himself overcame a lot of obstacles in himself including contraction of HIV, losing his wife, and drug addiction.
They put together a killer lineup for the event – Colin Quinn, Robert Kelly, Eugene Mirman, Rich Vos, Bonnie McFarlane, and Roy Wood Jr. are all set to perform. The money raised will go to those fighting their own addictions.
A few weeks before his death, Mike put together his most personal piece of work, a one man show called Drugs, Disease, and Death: A Comedy. The five show run featured Mike sharing his story to a small captive audience that was reduced to tears and laughter. Only Mike could garner such strong emotions from the crowd in such an entertaining fashion. Mike’s goal with the show was to bring his message to a mass audience.
We are here to carry on his legacy with the Mike DeStefano Foundation, dedicated to helping people who are in recovery. It’s what Mike was set to do with his one man show before he was abruptly taken away from us.
In addition to a great lineup of comedy, this event will feature rare footage of Mike DeStefano as well as tributes from friends and family. Please join us for a special night as we tribute and remember a truly talented and gifted person that the comedy world misses dearly. [Cringe Humor]
The fundraiser will be held at New York City’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Admission is $35 for orchestra seating, and $25 for Mezzanine seating. Purchase tickets here and head on out for a great night of comedy for a great cause.
