Greetings fellow comedy fans. We’re back with another week of news that you can use…or something like that. It seems like things are in full swing for the holiday season, and that includes the upcoming and dreaded December limbo of television shows going into repeats and not air new episodes. This never made sense to me. Mainly because the best time to put things on television is when people aren’t leaving the house because it’s cold as shit outside! But that’s just me.
This week will bring us new episodes from most comedies, ABC is even taking a stab at airing repeats of their comedy programing at the 10pm hour (Modern Family, Cougar Town). Perhaps an attempt to test the waters in case they have to compete against NBC’s plans to begin airing some half-hour comedies (Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock) during that time period Thursdays next year?
Comedies will also air their Christmas episodes in the next few days. We’re probably most excited about Community’s animated episode finally airing this week. The Simpsons Christmas special was on last night. It was rather uneventful except for the final few minutes that featured a very non-animated Katy Perry as they spoofed her controversial too sexy for Sesame Street banning earlier this year. They even managed to slip a pretty edgy for 8pm joke in there during the credits. If you need more of Homer and Co., the staff at Splitsider just wrapped a pretty terrific week of all things Simpsons. One thing they didn’t analyze that should be topic of their next Simpsons Week – why they can’t manage to air their Treehouse of Horror episodes before Halloween.
Also coming with this time of year are “best of” lists, everyone has one, we might even do the same if we get our lazy asses moving faster around the TLB Tower. Would it count if we posted it mid January? Regardless we do heavily suggest you check out Punchline Magazine’s top 10 Comedy Albums of the year. Not only is it a great list but they definitely picked our #2 and #1 records of the year.
Also on the new comedy album front. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Dane Cook’s new album I Did My Best: Greatest Hits is still riding high as the top comedy album this week.
And here’s what else is going on this week in comedy…
