  • Getting my review on: ‘Despicable Me 2’

After seeing Despicable Me 2, the first thing I can say is that it won’t disappoint. The first movie in the series, which was released in 2010, pleased audiences everywhere with its original take on an evil villain who is forced to be good. It has been three years and Gru and his lovable minions are back.

Our second story takes place right where the first one had left off. Gru (voiced by Steve Carrell) is still taking good care of his little girls and the minions are still busy fulfilling mindless, yet, hilarious tasks. However, it is not long until Gru is recruited to help solve a mystery at the local mall. As our story unfolds, Gru is taken on a wild adventure, along with nearly all of his minions.

The movie was a lot of fun, and while targeting children, even adults will find themselves laughing pretty hard in this one. The comedy comes less from wordplay, and mostly from simple things like people falling down, shaking their booty a little too hard, or from the 21 fart gun salute. Either way, it will have kids laughing because they’re kids and bringing adults back to their young ages as they laugh just as hard. As far as the connection to the first film goes, there really wasn’t any. Yes, our main characters are still around but that’s about it. Oh and don’t worry, the lovely yet deadly Freeze Ray is still active.

All in all, viewers will enjoy the flick. It won’t change your life or cause you to question reality, but it may have you thinking, “I wish I could never grow up”. So if you’re looking for a good way to spend your afternoon or something to brighten your day, look no further than Gru’s little minions, they’re guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
