Saturday Night Live may be in the market for a new head writing team: current co-head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider have sold a pilot to Comedy Central.
Kelly and Schneider, who head the SNL writers’ room along with Bryan Tucker and Kent Sublette, were promoted to their positions before the start of this season; they’ve both been with the show for six years.
Their pilot “will center on a pair of siblings whose 12-year-old brother becomes unexpectedly famous, forcing them to reevaluate their own messy lives,” according to Variety.
Kelly – who wrote and directed Sundance hit / Independent Spirit Award-winning film Other People, starring Molly Shannon – will direct this new series. Of course, as with pretty much any project involving SNL alum, Lorne Michaels will serve as EP, with his Broadway Video production company.
This is certainly exciting news for Kelly and Schneider, a dynamic pair who have been behind some of SNL’s most memorable sketches in recent years, like “Dyke and Fats,” “Back Home Ballers,” and “(Do It On My) Twin Bed.”
