  • The Archer and Bob’s Burgers crossover happened last night… (photos)

    Archer / Bob's 1

    And it was glorious!

If you didn’t catch it, the season started off with Archer (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) battling a spell of amnesia, he said his name was Bob, roamed into a burger joint and married wife Linda (voiced by comedian John Roberts) and her three kids. It was cool because we got to see the Archer-ized versions of Bob’s Burgers but unfortunately we didn’t get to hear any of the kid’s voices which is a bummer since equally funny comedians Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman, and Kristen Schaal all voice the kids. There was also a bit of diner fight scene from A History Of Violence which made things all the more fun. Read the rest of this entry

Andy Samberg and Jim Gaffigan land TV pilots and other piloty news

Andy SambergBefore the weekend begins why not some news about TV pilots that are being handed out to funny people. If I were a TV exec, I’d line up all the funny people I know and just fire up the Oprah gifter machine 3000 and run the ol’ “You get a pilot! You get a pilot! You get a pilot!” outta that lineup.

    • Andy Samberg will return to the small screen, this might be a good thing since his movie career has yet to pan out (even though you can’t mess with Hot Rod). FOX has given pilot order for Samberg to star in a new sitcom that will be produced by Parks And Recreation producer and co-creator Dan Goor and Mike Schur. The plot of the show will put Samberg into a New York precinct with a diverse group of detectives.
    • Jim Gaffigan and Peter Tolan (Rescue Me) have teamed up to co-write a pilot for CBS about a married man (Gaffigan) living in New York living with 5 children which is a plot that mimics Gaffigan’s personal life closely.
    • Howie Mandel inked a deal to bring a hidden camera show, Who Gets The Last Laugh to TBS.
    • ABC has greenlit a pilot called Mixology which is a “high-concept” single-camera comedy from The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.

The Laugh Button guide to new Fall 2012 television comedies

    Guide To Fall Comedies

Some people have fantasy football, we have fantasy television. Well, we don’t pick teams and make trades and such, but we do try to predict outcomes. Since the 2012 television season is upon us it’s time to check out a slew of new shows. So let’s get into the evaluation process for the 2012 season.

NBC has the title of most new sitcoms this season. With the threat of many of its aging and ratings-starved sitcoms on the way out, it’s no wonder they’re trying to get something to stick with watchers. FOX and ABC are somewhere in the middle, making moves to build on its tentpole sitcoms and try to make bigger nights around the successes of shows like New Girl and Modern Family. This leaves CBS which, well is pretty strong across the board. They didn’t really go crazy with the new sitcoms. Besides How I Met Your Mother potentially bowing out at season’s end CBS only really worked timeslot shifts, putting the juggernaut Two And A Half Men on Thursday nights to mix it up with The Big Bang Theory and sweat NBC’s Thursday night comedy block a bit more.

Rob Riggle to replace Frank Caliendo on FOX NFL Pregame Show

FOX is making a comedian change on it’s NFL PregameShow. After nine years as the funny person/impressionist to the show, producers are replacing Frank Caliendo on the top-rated show with former Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle.

The motive for the move seems to be the need for a change. Producer Chris Pizzi stated, “Nothing against Frank, we love Frank. But it’s been nine years. We wanted something fresh. Rob is on the edge of becoming a huge star. We want to help him. And that helps our show too. Now, everybody just knows him as the guy in that movie.” The interest in ex-marine pilot Riggle existed long before his recent hosting gig on the ESPY Awards.

Riggle isn’t known for doing any impressions of John Madden or George Bush like Caliendo but he is good at shouting catch phrases like “In The Face!” so that could work well when it comes to offering commentary on tackles.

Are “In Living Color” and “The Flintstones” re-boots dead in the water?

If you can subtly read between the lines, the President of FOX may have stated that the much ballyhooed re-boots of In Living Color and The Flintstones are over before they even began.

In front of the Television Critics Association Monday night, FOX Entertainment President made mention between American Idol, Glee, and The Mindy Kaling Project chatter that both the re-boot of In Living Color and the Seth MacFarlane re-boot of The Flintstones are both not planning on airing any time soon. Though the network seems committed to bringing new comedy to its network, it just might be going for something original at this point.

T.J. Miller Cast In New FOX Sitcom

T.J. Miller has been cast as one of the leads in a FOX sitcom. The show, The Goodwin Games was already picked up by the network and is a single-camera show from the creators of How I Met Your Mother production trio of Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, and Chris Harris.

Miller will play one of the three leads of siblings who reconnect after the death of their father who leaves them a fortune but only under the condition that they agree to his conditions. Miller is coming in as a re-cast for actor Jake Lacy who played the youngest sibling in the pilot. Miller originally played a similar character in a pilot that was not picked up by FOX but the brass in charge liked Miller so much, they looked for ways to keep him around.

    Television Upfronts 2012: FOX Comedies

FOX is continuing to support its Animation Domination Sunday nights because if it ain’t broke they why fix it, Amiright? The real problem for them is the ability to launch an animated show that’s not helmed by Seth McFarlane. As of right now, they have hope with Bob’s Burgers. The network scored in the live action comedy with New Girl and with the pickup of some new series could help give them a solid Tuesday comedy block to build off. Read the rest of this entry
