  • New Wave Entertainment teams up with Fathom events to bring comedy to movie theaters

New Wave and FathomIf you’re in the comedy industry you might’ve heard the name New Wave Entertainment tossed around here and there. NWE is a big content producer in the world of comedy, in a nutshell, they produce stand-up comedy specials and other content that’s then licensed to outlets like Epix, Showtime, or Comedy Central for broadcast. Them being the creators of content also affords them other great opportunities like releasing material on CD or DVD for people to purchase as well.

Now it looks like NWE is teaming up with NCM Fathom Events to bring comedy into movie theaters across the country. Movie goers will know Fathom for putting together one of a kind experiences like one-night only concerts, festivals, opera, plays, or sporting events live in your local high definition theater. Now Fathon and New Wave have teamed up to bring A-list comedians to the cinema starting this summer. Read the rest of this entry

Louis CK reveals self-funded tour statistics in fan address before premiere of, “Oh My God” special

Louis CK - Rolling StoneIt’s become a bit of a tradition for Louis CK to address his fans before a monumental milestone in his life. The last time was before he hosted Saturday Night Live just days after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast.

This afternoon, Louis wrote a similar letter to his fans before the premiere of his HBO special, Oh My God which premieres tonight at 10pm.

In the address, CK states that his self-sold tour performed remarkably well – 100 shows, 39 cities, and over 300K people saw him. The most interesting statistic is that with an average concert resell rate of 25% via third party (aka scalper, or sites like Stub Hub) these shows, sold via his website only and for the rate of every ticket for $45 (including fees) had only a 1% scalping rate.

As the tour ended, 4 shows at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, AZ were recorded for what the special that is Oh My God. We also learn he taped there because the show was in the round and it’s where George Carlin taped a special in 1977.

He also tossed in an apology for being the current Rolling Stone cover boy. Read the rest of this entry

My Favorite Sketch: Mr. Show, “It’s Insane, This Guy’s Taint”

In her latest special, Kristen Schaal offers a hysterical parody of the Vagina Monologues with “The Taintologues.” In case the title wasn’t clear enough, Schaal essentially performs monologues about taints (you know, the piece of skin between your ass and genitals?). Yet as funny as it was, the bit reminded me of another hilarious bit about taints courtesy of Mr. Show. In this particular sketch, David Cross and Bob Odenkirk (along with Scott Aukerman as model Theo Brixton) mock 70s stylized porn documentaries… only about taints.

[note: while I try to feature a sketch from a different show each week, you can be damn sure that this isn’t the last time you’ll see Mr. Show in this column]

If you have a favorite sketch that we should check out, tell us about it in the comments.

Louis C.K. explains his upcoming HBO special title, “Oh My God”

Louis C.K. has killed it, pushing his name into legendary status when it comes to stand-up comedy. April 13th on HBO this comedic juggernaut looks to knock down more walls and split more sides when he returns with Oh My God. It’s an interesting name for a comedy special; most comedy specials are titled Live at (wherever they are). Take a quick 30 seconds out of your day and watch this teaser as C.K. gives his reasoning behind the title. After that, the only thing left to do is setting a reminder on your phone so you don’t miss it!

Louis C.K.’s “Oh My God” stand-up special trailer breaks it all down (video)

Louis C.K. just released the trailer for his forthcoming HBO stand-up special, Oh My God and in typical Louis fashion he tries his best to take the piss out of the cliche that is and ad for said special. And though you don’t always wear them Louis, you might want to consider rocking the suit more, it looks good on ya. Louis also mentioned that this special will be for sale on his website for $5 this September. Read the rest of this entry
