  • Weekend Flashback: Dan Soder, Joe List, and “Robert Kelly” record a podcast at Just For Laughs

JFL - Soder, List, KellyIt’s that time of the weekend where a good old flashback laugh is in order.

From our last visit to the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, we met up with comedians Dan Soder and Joe List who were in town for showcases at the festival.

We were all enjoying an afternoon beverage on the outdoor patio when a common face came floating by, “Robert Kelly,” in cardboard cutout form. He helped host an impromptu podcast recording right there on the patio and things got funny quick.

Robert didn’t have much to say while Soder and List, regulars of Kelly’s “You Know What Dude” podcast, filled in the gaps of the show, even tossing in a well-executed impression of show’s other regular, comedian Kelly Fastuca to keep the show going. Read the rest of this entry

Talking Comedy with Hannibal Buress (video)

Hannibal Buress had a very busy 2012 – a new stand-up special, development deals, TV appearances, that time he took extacy and peed himself at an SNL wrap party, had a beef with a school newspaper and release a gibberish rap. He even picked up a few awards along the way including “Best Club Comic” at the Comedy Awards and Just For Laugh’s “Rising Star” award.

We spoke briefly with Hannibal about the rising star award at JFL 2012 and his acceptance speech and his opinions on putting on his weekly Comedy At The Knitting Factory show.

We caught up with Mike at Just For Laughs Montreal to talk about where he draws his comedic influences, his mother the comedian, pleas a case for the Juggalo fanbase, and his ultimate goal to beat Marc Maron for the record of most single tickets sold to his shows.

    Ranting with Andy Kindler (video)

Half the fun of interviewing a comedian is sometimes just letting them know discuss anything and everything they’d like to. The one and only Andy Kindler is a pro at letting you know what’s on his mind as he’s thinking of it. Kindler was in Montreal for the Just For Laughs festival where he delivers his annual and hilarious “State of the Industry” address where he dissects everything and anything in the world of comedy.

But don’t think that we were in the clear. Kindler found ways to mock us, our phones, and our website name. Even the pitbull of comedy himself, Bobby Slayton caught some action and he was just passing through. Kindler gave us some insight into his comedy writing process and how he gets into character to do is voiceover work on cartoons like The Life And Times of Tim and Bob’s Burgers.
