  • Seth Meyers Will Host The 2011 White House Correspondence Dinner

The White House Correspondence Dinner is an annual event held in Washington, DC. It’s a meal where both political and Hollywood bigwigs show up. It’s also often hosted by a comedian whose job it is to play master of ceremonies and try to roast the people in charge to a room of people that often think very highly of themselves and aren’t often the best place to lay some jokes down to.

This year, SNL writer and Weekend Updater Seth Meyers has been tapped to handle the duties of walking that fine line of being funny while not being mean.

This isn’t Meyer’s first hosting duty, recently holding down the ESPN ESPY Awards and the Webby Awards. But we’re thinking this will be a bigger to Meyers, ’cause there’s the whole roasting of The President thing going on. Read the rest of this entry

The Grammy Nominations For Comedy Are…

The Grammy Nominations were announced late last night. Though there are some ridiculously crazy categories floating around out there (Best Banda Album anyone?) the two we always look forward to are in the comedy groups.

It’s a year of veterans shutting out newbies and getting the nominations. Lewis Black, Flight Of The Conchords, Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, and Robin Williams getting noms. This isn’t entirely shocking because people always pick the names they know. But with that being said, there were great albums by newer comedians like Hannibal Buress, Bo Burnham, or the white-hot Reggie Watts that would have been pretty amazing to see get nominations. This Week In Comedy: Coco Is Back, Tracy Morgan Stands Up, Kinison Returns From Hell

After nine of the longest months possible Conan O’Brien is finally back on late night TV! Coco’s new show, simply titled Conan, will premiere on TBS at 11pm with a slew of big celebrity guests. The first guest is a mystery entirely since they will be voted on by the audience, but Seth Rogen has been confirmed as well as Glee star Lea Michelle. Even Tom Hanks, the man who helped popularize the name “Coco” will be showing up on Tuesday. There’s even been speculation as to who will run the band since the departure of Max Weinberg.

If you’re a fan of wild screaming and rowdy comedy (and who isn’t), then don’t miss the premiere of Sam Kinison: Back From Hell on Comedy Central this Saturday at 10 pm EST. The special is going to have lot’s of great footage of Sam doing what he did best, which was partying and making us laugh, but will also feature great personal stories with the people who knew and were inspired by Sam. Look for interviews from Denis Leary, Chris Rock, Lewis Black, and others. Since it will be on cable TV the special will obviously be censored but if you want to check out full uncensored version (which I highly recommend) just wait until next Tuesday where it will be released unedited on DVD along with bonus never before seen Sam Kinison footage.

If your also looking for some filthy comedy on Saturday night, Tracy Morgan will have his first one hour HBO special Tracy Morgan: Black and Blue. It is expected to be Morgan at his dirtiest and funniest so if  you are paying for the extra channels on your cable bill you might as well use them. Read the rest of this entry

Not even Hell can hold Sam Kinison

You know Sam Kinison is the king of bad asses when even Hell can’t hold him. That’s not to say that he has risen from the dead (although if there is a party on Earth he wants to go to I wouldn’t put it past him), but he is being honored by his fellow comedians for the hell he raised during his time.

Called Back From Hell: A Tribute To Sam Kinison, this special from Comedy Central remembers Kinison for the over-the-top lung screaming, hell raising, party animal man he was.

And while Kinison’s life as former Pentecostal preacher, turned notorious bad boy, crowned rock ‘n roll comedian is stuff of legend; it was his brilliantly sharp and observational comedy that made him one of the most respected and missed comedians nearly 2 decades later. This Week In Comedy: Get Ready For The Rally, Lewis Black Hates The Holidays

Hola comedy fans. We know everyone is gearing up for a big Halloween weekend filled with pumpkin flavored booze, fake blood, and women dressed in slutty costumes. The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are taking this week off the air to get ready for this weekends Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. If you have trouble getting to the event no worries Comedy Central has already announced that they will be streaming the events live.

If you are one of the crazy people who has started there Christmas shopping or you’re a Grinch at heart then Surviving The Holidays with Lewis Black is a total pick up. The History Chanel documentary has Black interviewing historical and religious experts about the history behind Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa as well as the different social traditions that it spawned. There are also interviews from fellow comedians Bob Saget, Craig Ferguson, Joy Behar, and David Alan Grier who give their tips for surviving the holidays.

Here is a clip of Black’s interview with Craig Ferguson.

Also coming to stores this week, Lafflink is releasing some great compilations of legendary comedians. Were not sure why Jeff Dunham is there either but I did notice that in terms of special guests Dunham’s DVD has the likes of Lewis Black, Louis CK, and Patton Oswalt so if anything it’s worth it for that. The price is pretty reasonable so it’s something that is worth picking up.

Lewis Black Is Back On “Back In Black”

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best parts of The Daily Show is Lewis Black’s rant heavy segment “Back in Black”. The only qualm we have with Mr. Black on it is that the time in between each of these segments is painfully long, and let’s be honest we need our Lewis Black. In case you missed another one of these Haley’s Comet of laughs here is Blacks rant from last night’s episode.

The comic takes a good hard scream at the state of education system including the award winning* show Teach:Tony Danza where Tony Danza is a public school English teacher. I don’t even know where to start on that.

Also worth noting is Lewis’ tie, which is tied so loose it looks like it’s barely on. We’re not sure if that is a hip fashion statement or a deterrent from Lewis strangling himself from rage.

Teenage Paparazzo Stalks Celebrity Comedians On HBO Documentary

Stage Time Magazine is reporting that some of comedy’s heavy hitters like Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg and Lewis Black will be featured in an HBO documentary series called Teenage Paparazzo.

The documentary, which is put together by Entourage star Adrian Grenier as he follows a 14 year old paparazzo named Austin Visschedyk, learning about his world and how some celebs need the paparazzo and stalk them as much as the paparazzo stalk celebs.

Teenage Paparazzo debuts Monday, September 27 at 9pm ET.
