Chris Rock was the guest on The Daily Show last night. Jon Stewart had him on to talk about his new movie, 2 Days in New York. When asked about the status of a new stand-up special, Rock relayed how difficult it was these days to hone new material in comedy clubs due to the rise of audience members taping shows. He raises a good point, comedy clubs are where comedians are supposed to be refine and get bits to work. There, they work out phrasing, timing, and tags; polishing their act. I’d imagine if recording material was as popular in the early 90′s as it was today, someone could’ve prematurely recorded Rock’s most famous bit of all time and put it on Youtube before it was ready, spoiling a classic.
