With all the excitement circling John Oliver it’s easy to see why he would be a little nervous about taking over The Daily Show for Jon Stewart this summer. “I just have to try not to destroy it” Oliver said on Letterman. Oliver is a familiar face around The Daily Show, having been there for seven years but hosting is a big step. So Oliver turned to Letterman for some advice on the subject. “I don’t know how to talk to an actor whose movie I have not seen. I was wondering if you had any tips on that,” Oliver said to Letterman. Letterman had some good advice on the topic. First you could say “I’m excited to see that” or you can always distract the actor with “where did you film that.” John liked his tips saying “those will be my two tells,” tells I’m assuming is British for “things that I will say.”
All in all, I’m sure John will be just fine hosting The Daily Show. Will America miss Jon Stewart? Yes. Will they be thrilled when he gets back? Of course but until then you’ll have to tide us over Mr. Oliver. Just remember, we believe in you and love you, but not as much as Jon Stewart.
