In addition to being a great stand-up comedian, Wil Sylivnce has done some incredible work in the film and movie space, many years back he founded the NBCU Short Film Fest and he’s stared in a few as well. Sylvince and his producing/writing partner Bryan Kennedy also wrote a movie titled, I Am Maurice. A film about a Haitian immigrant who comes to the US after the 2010 earthquake to pursue his dream of becoming a boxer. The movie script is finished and ready to be shot, they just need to raise the capital to get it done.
So the duo set up a kickstarter to find backers for the film. Visit their kickstarter page to donate. When asked why he took to Kickstarter for funding, Sylvice stated told us, “After having several meetings with movie studios, we grew tired of having Hollywood try to change our vision and purpose with the film. So we decided to launch a Kickstarter page and will be filming the movie ourselves.”
Here’s the trailer + story behind the funding.
