Comedian Jamie Lee has been a cast member on the hit MTV series Girl Code, appears regularly on comedy panel shows such as @Midnight, rocked Chelsea Lately, MTV’s Ridiculousness, Fox’s World’s Funniest Fails. Now she’s got her very own show on truTV entitled 10 Things premiering January 5. The show sees Lee take the listicle to a new level with this combo of irreverent commentary and cutting-edge visuals. The result is a comedic countdown packed with surprising and buzz-worthy facts and present them with a unique point of view. 10 episodes have already been ordered.
How did 10 Things come about?
I did a comedy pilot for Lifetime with a producer who works on “10 Things.” So when this show came to fruition, he hollered atcha gal (me) and the rest is history! Very, very recent history… The rest is the present!
What did you enjoy most about developing “10 Things” for truTV?
Working with friends to make TV. That is always the best. Plus this is the first show I’ve hosted that has gone to series! Very excited about doing more than just a pilot episode of a show.
What would you say is something that sets “10 Things” apart from other TV shows?
It’s comedy and facts, fused together in a Buzzfeed listicle kinda way, so you’re laughing and learning and just snacking on delicious brain candy.
Now that you have your own TV show, what is your next goal?
I’m so bad at answering this question because if I don’t fulfill the goal, then I feel like a failure. I just always want to keep writing and creating and being in things and moving forward. That said! I’d love to have my own scripted show that I write and star in.
What is your ideal comedy live comedy show (venue, # of patrons, other comics on the lineup etc.)?
An intimate gathering where the pressure is low and riffing is at an all-time high. I do better with less people in the audience because I can slip into fuck around mode. Written jokes are my favorite thing, but being loose and spontaneous is also key.
What are 10 Things on your mind right now?
Food, 1 through 10. I haven’t eaten dinner. I need to. But I’m trying to lose weight for my wedding so I’ll just be hungry and grumpy! I’m fun.
If you were a comedian in the twenties, what would your vaudeville act be?
Tap dancing. And there would be puppets. I’d work them in somehow.
Comedy confession: what is something that you find funny, but you’re afraid to admit it?
If you were not a comedian, what would be you be doing?
I’d probably be an editor for like Redbook. Just, like, cleaning up the language on pie recipes.
If you had a LinkedIn in profile, what would your tagline be?
“Uppity Slut.” Wait which one is LinkedIn?
Lee’s show 10 Things premieres on truTV on January 5 10p and be sure to follow her on twitter.
