Odd Mom Out is the new contribution to Bravos push towards original scripted comedy programming. Jill Kargman, novelist and former chairman of Chanel, is the series creator, which was given the greenlight by the NBCUniversal-owned cable network. The show is a single-camera series and will supposedly be announced in Bravo’s upfront presentation announcement Tuesday.
Abby Elliott and Andy Buckley are joining the show. The series is based on Kargman’s life in New York’s Upper East Side where she will be facing the wealthy ‘momzillas’ from the area. Kargman will be starring as a version of herself trying to face an environment constantly focused on those who are elite and trendy forcing her to be the “odd mom out,” hence the show name. The sitcom is based off of her novel Momzillas published in 2007.
Buckley, famous for his days on The Office, will be playing Jill’s born into wealth, money hungry husband Andy. Elliott will be playing Jill’s sister-in-law Brooke, who is the epitome of a momzilla falling right into the societal norms. KK Glick (CollegeHumor) will portray an ER doctor and Jill’s best friend. Finally, Joanna Cassidy from Six Feet Under will be playing Candace, the status hungry head of the family. The show has not been issued a premiere date; however the ten episode series will begin production this month in New York.
