After helming some heavier Oscar contenders the past few years, it’s been announced that Adam McKay is coming back with another comedy.
Yesterday, it was announced that Adam McKay, best known for comedies like Anchorman, Step Brothers, and Talladega Nights, has teamed up with Netflix to once again bring us a new comedy, this time starring Jennifer Lawrence.
The film is described in the release as centering on “two scientists who, upon discovering that a meteor will strike the Earth in six months, go on a media tour to try to warn the world but find an unreceptive and unbelieving populace.“
The film, titled Don’t Look Up, is being fast tracked, with filming set up for April with a fall release being the goal.
“She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite talent’,” McKay said in a statement. “And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.”
Scott Stuber, Netflix’s head of film, echoed the excitement saying “Adam has always had great timing when it comes to making smart, relevant and irreverent films that depict our culture. Even if he somehow ends up predicting planet Earth’s imminent demise, we’re excited to add this to our slate before it all comes to an end.”
The all-too-real premise, as well as the talent involved, definitely has our attention!
