Adult Swim continues to shake up its lineup, with yet another show facing the axe. Via their social media, show creators Sandy Honig, Mitra Jouhari and Alyssa Stonoha announced that Three Busy Debras would not be making a return.
The past few months have seen a big shakeup in television comedies, and specifically Adult Swim. Earlier this month, Adult Swim announced that Joe Pera Talks with You would also be ending. The cancellation of both shows indicates a possible trend of Adult Swim shying away from live action shows.
Adult Swim has traditionally focused more on animation. With the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery, Adult Swim’s parent company, it’s possible that Adult Swim is trying to get back to its roots.
Still, the news comes as a bit of a shock for fans. The show has developed a dedicated and loyal fanbase, who have not hesitated to voice their distraught online. The show also has some star power attached to it. The show is the latest to have Amy Poehler as executive producer. But clearly this is not enough to keep the show on the air.
This doesn’t mean that this is the last we will see of Three Busy Debras. The project has gone through many iterations before, first as a play and then as a web series before being picked up as a television show. Who knows if there will be yet another successful transformation.
