Andy Kaufman to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame

Andy Kaufman has often been recognized for his contribution to comedy, but often, his contributions to wrestling have not received the same fanfare. This is despite the fact that Kaufman was one of the first celebrities to publicly endorse wrestling and declare his love of the sport. Alongside Jerry Lawler, he also helped bring it to the mainstream with what was the OG “slap heard across the world” on Late Night with David Letterman.

Now, Kaufman’s contributions to wrestling are finally being recognized. It was announced today that Kaufman will be inducted into the WWE Wrestling Hall of Fame. There have been countless petitions over the years, but because Andy never technically wrestled within WWE, he was always looked over. We are salad that, over 40 years after his infamous match with Jerry Lawler, his time has come.

The 2023 ceremony will be held on March 31 at 10:30pm ET at the Crypto.Com Arena and airing on Peacock.
