Don’t feel like going out? Go ahead, stay in — you can still catch a live comedy show, streaming from some of the country’s best clubs straight to your phone. New app Laughly makes being a lazy comedy fan even easier, bringing shows from clubs and fests to couches everywhere.
In an official release touting the service’s upcoming livestreamed events, co-founder Dave Scott explained how he hopes Laughly can change the comedy landscape.
“Our goal is twofold,” Scott says. “For audiences, no matter where you live, you can have an All-Access pass to the very best comedy shows, enjoying major stars and discovering new talents. For comics, it extends Laughly’s mission to help them gain exposure and build their fan base, protecting their acts from bootlegging and jokelifting with the immediacy of the livestream.”
Laughly recently raked in over $2 million in funding, and it took home the Best New Startup award in the Entertainment & Content category at the 2017 SXSW Festival.
In addition to the livestreams, Laughly also announced a redesign that makes it even easier to access its library that includes over 700 comedians.
Special event streams will be free for Laughly subscribers, and pay-per-view for everyone else; subscribers also get access to the network’s vast library of specials and live sets, plus access to content from comedy clubs 24 hours after the actual live showtimes. Fest sets will stream one time only, so they’ll still be special events – Superbowl-style comedy fest viewing parties, anyone?
Laughly’s first ever livestreamed comedy events will be:
April 8: World Series of Comedy regionals, Chattanooga, TN
April 19-22: Moontower Comedy Festival, Austin, TX
May 15 Funniest Person in Austin, Austin, TX
May 20 Carmen Lynch, New York, NY
