Arsenio Hall recalls the first time Eddie Murphy met Richard Pryor in a clip from Chris Rock’s “Tamborine” extended cut

January 13, 2021      Andrew Buss      Chris Rock, News, Video

Yesterday, Netflix released an extended cut of Chris Rock’s 2018 stand-up special, Tamborine, now titled Total Blackout: The Tamborine Extended Cut. It features never before seen jokes, interviews, and behind the scenes footage.

To promote the special, they released one of the clips from the special. The clip features Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Arsenal Hall all hanging out in the dressing room talking about that one time Prince and Michael Jackson joined James Brown on stage which led to Arsenio telling an epic story about the first time Eddie Murphy ever met his comedy hero Richard Pryor at The Comedy Store. “There’s a young man here who a lot of people say is the new me,” Pryor said onstage. “But I’m not through being me yet, so that sh*t f*cks with me a little bit.” After Pryor brought Murphy onstage, Pryor sat on the first step and proceeded to watch Murphy’s act. By the end of it, the two comedy legends walked offstage together. If only that moment was filmed!
