Consequence of Sound and the Modern School of a Film are partnering up again for the return of Assembly, which is a “documentary podcast that looks at what brings us together.” For the second season of the podcast, which is hosted by Robert Milazzo, they have chosen to document David Cross. The series follows Cross as he performs intimate gigs (back when gigs could be intimate) and shapes his new act, while some of his comic friends share their perspective on his life and career.
Some of those friends include Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt, Amber Tamblyn, Bob Odenkirk, Janeane Garofalo, H. Jon Benjamin, Sam Seder and evening Julian Casablancas. Fred Armisen has also contributed some original music to the project.
“David was part of just about every great memory of comedy I have,” Garofalo said in a statement. “Assembly gave those moments back to me.” Oswalt added onto that saying, “I love talking to Robert in general, but the way Assembly looks first-hand at an original like David — how he works, thinks, takes risks — well … yes!”.
Those two quotes along let you know what you’re in for. In a time when everyone seems to be increasingly tense and even competitive in some cases, it’s nice to be taken back to a time where all of one’s energy could go into talking up one of their friends, while also exploring the career of a great comedic presence.
Assembly returns to Apple Podcasts and Spotify on November 10th.
