24 years after his turn as the sadistic a*shole orderly Hal in 1996’s Happy Gilmore, Ben Stiller has brought the character back.
Yesterday, Adam Sandler’s latest Netflix outing, Hubie Halloween, was released. Reviews were actually somewhat better than how his Netflix film’s usually fare, with Rotten Tomatoes putting this one so far at a 46%. But seeing as how last year’s Murder Mystery wasn’t at all well-received critically and still wound up becoming the streaming giant’s most popular film to date, its clear that those things don’t always matter. And while Hubie Halloween is full of lots of fun cameos that includes Steve Buscemi, Shaq, Tim Meadows, Maya Rudolph, Ray Liotta, and more, this one in particular stands out.
The film actually starts with Stiller’s character, Hal L, now no longer in a nursing facility but working in a psychiatric ward. As he walks through the building to do his check-ups on the patients, he freaks out discovering one of them is missing. You can find both the character’s original and current incarnation below.
