If you are familiar with comedian/machine/podcaster Bert Kreischer you know the dude loves to cut himself a good promo. Anyone that follows him on social media (particularly his his Instagram account) will see Kreischer spend just as much time filming himself in a Speedo by the pool plugging tour dates as you will hanging with his family, talking to guests on his podcasts, or a video of him goofing off with his comedian friends.
Kreischer’s career kicked into high gear a few years back when his Russian Mafia/The Machine story went super viral online from his Showtime special. As Kreischer has stated, nobody really watched the special when it aired on TV, but millions watched it when it hit social media. All thing lifted for Kreischer, podcast subscribers, road sales, and notoriety. Kreischer was a virtual overnight success 2 decades in the making.
On social media, Kreischer has continued to let his freak flag fly and he might’ve just leveled up the past few days. Last week Kreischer posted a ridiculously great promo vid of his year-long Body Shots World Tour of him hanging in his front yard (in a Speedo of course) as his wife and daughter provided wind and weather effects while said flag flew. What good promo is complete without the soundtrack of The Seger System’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” and drone shots.
While many thought it was the peak of Kreischer’s promos, he dropped straight fire Monday by performing a choreographed hip-hop dance set to Post Malone’s “Wow”. Nobody was expecting it, but now that it’s here we can’t live without it.
After watching it, it’s easy to see why earlier when he gathered with friends Joe Rogan, Ari Shaffir, and Tom Segura to discuss 2019’s Sober October challenge, Kreischer pushed hard for the idea that they all learn to hip-hop dance. While he didn’t get his way for the competition, it’s obvious Kreischer then took classes or was all along because over the course of a 60 second clip Kreischer more than competently pulled off a dance the resulted in him not only being shirtless, but pantsless and the rest of the comedy community took notice.
In addition to fans, other comedians had praise.
“Oh man, I f*cking love this” – Chris D’Elia
“This is gold.” – Jo Koy
“I for real shouted nooo when you ripped your pants off.” – Angela Johnson
“Get that sh*t!” – Yannis Papas
“Pure sex” – Dan Soder
“F*cking LEGEND!!” – Dan Cummins
“Hahaha. You’re a f*cking disgrace. Good work” – Ricky Gervais
“Brilliant” – Jim Gaffigan
In less than 24 hours the video is over 3 million views on Twitter, half a mil on Instagram, and about 100K on Youtube
Surprisingly quiet on social media are his fellow Sober October competitors Ari Shaffir, Joe Rogan, and Tom Segura. Are they working on responses? We’ll have to stay tuned and find out.
How far and wide did the video go? Well today Kreischer updated us with a post from a casting director at America’s Got Talent who was interested in talking to Kreischer (a possible prank from one of his friends?). The most brilliant part of their email is they asked if he considered himself more a comedian or a dancer. So, after 20+ years of telling jokes around the world, one 60 second video might make ole Bert a dancer in the mind of Hollywood. Dane Cook’s response to this note probably best sums it all up by commenting, “Weirdest. Business. Ever.”
The fall run of Bert Kreischer’s Body Shots World tour is kicking off in a few weeks. Visit his website for ticket info.
