“What’s your f@!?#ng deal?!”
It’s a question Big Jay Oakerson asks a lot of his crowds these days, attempting to learn more about them and bring them into a comedy conversation.
If you haven’t gotten the chance to catch comedian Big Jay Oakerson live lately, you are missing out. Over these last few years, he’s become one of the best comedians working today. I’ll repeat it if you didn’t catch it the first time… Big Jay Oakerson is one of the best comedians working today.
On any given night, Oakerson is on stage doing spots and fearlessly making us all laugh with not much more than his solid material and ability to work a room with stellar crowd work. Often times laughing along with us, because as he once explained to us, “he’s often hearing the joke with us for the first time as well.” Oakerson has spent some time refining his gift of gab, talking to his audiences, and spinning aspects of their lives into comedy gold.
A little over a year ago, Oakerson started a show at festivals What’s Your F@!?#ng Deal?! where he’d invite his comedian friends up on stage with the sole goal of riffing off what was going on with the audience. That festival show recently became a monthly event where some of the city’s best have showcased their skills.
Oakerson is topping off this current, (and remarkable) run in the best way possible, with a crowd work album. The Crowd Work Sessions: What’s Your F@!?#ng Deal?! will be released on Monday, November 17th via Comedy Central records, a full five years after his debut album, An American Storyteller. The album will be available wherever digital albums are sold.
Until the the album is released you should make it a point to catch Jay in a club near you, because there’s nothing better than catching him in that environment.
And talk about storytelling, this is one that always makes us smile.
Here’s one of him appearing on Dave Attell’s Comedy Underground. Oakerson served as Attell’s opener for many years.
