It’s been over a year since Comedy Central set fire to Just Bieber’s ass as the subject of its long-running roast series. While CC’s plans for roasts haven’t really followed a specific schedule, one thing is true, they’ve been elevating the subjects of its roasts these last few runs. Opting to wait for the bigger names rather than just pick any Tom, Dick, or Harry. It’s proven to be a good strategy for producers as with the bigger roastee names, the bigger the names they’ve been able to get on the dais. Calling forth bonafide Hollywood names to the the table that match the A-list comedians on the dais.
With that being said, Comedy Central is upping the Roast game by selecting Rob Lowe as the subject of the next roast. Lowe, who is a complete A-lister (and has been for a long time) will hopefully draw not only big ratings but, as outlined in the network’s strategy, hopefully draws bigger names.
“Rob Lowe is handsome, talented, successful and handsome. He needs to be roasted,” said Kent Alterman, President, Comedy Central. Lowe added, “What a thrill to once again be following in Justin Bieber’s footsteps. I look forward to a night of hilarious jokes recycled from the James Franco Roast. I would like to express my gratitude to the members of my family who have passed away and therefore will not have to endure what promises to be a very special evening.”
The network plans to tape the roast later this summer in Los Angeles as the show will air a bit later.
