A documentary on Dane Cook is in development. The comedian is working with Canadian broadcaster Super Channel to produce Brace For Impact: The Dane Cook Story. The doc will chronicle Cook’s story which is a very interesting one. The meteoric rise to stardom with a buzzy stage presence as he was wrangling this emerging newfangled thing called, “social media”. Essentially creating the basic blueprint for how a comedian can build an audience and pretty much every one has used since.
While the early aughts were a fantastic time for Cook, they also gave him some crushing personal blows – losing both of his parents to cancer as he was on the rise, and of course the insane story about how he was betrayed business manager brother (aka The Burger King) was caught embezzling millions from him. A subject Cook hasn’t really addressed much publicly until now.
Cook is on board and will serve as executive producer on the documentary along with the folks at a few film houses including Score G Production Films and Abrupt Films.
Cook stated that the “dig into the treasure trove that is my past has been cathartic, magical and wild. With this doc people will be invited into the complex journey of my personal life and career as a professional entertainer.” Cooked added, “We’re capturing a wildly entertaining doc that lands itself in both the comedy and true crime genres. What we are presenting is savagely funny and hilariously heartbreaking.”
The documentary will be directed by Brett Harvey who has previously worked on docs Breaking Olympia: The Phil Heath Story and Inmate #1: The Rise of Danny Trejo.
Licensed by Super Channel in Canada, the documentary is anticipated to air in late 2024.
