Update #11 [Monday 5:48pm]: According to Ardie Fuqua’s mother Doris, he is in “critical but stable” condition. She was told this information from doctors and revealed to NJ.com. Adding, “He has a broken leg and a few other things.”
Update #10 [Monday 4:45pm]: As we alluded to earlier, the reports about Morgan’s leg amputation have been greatly exaggerated and were only reported on by one outlet. An updated statement from Morgan’s reps confirms this suspicion.
“Tracy remains in critical but stable condition. His fiancée Megan is by his side. The concern for his well-being has been overwhelming, but Megan is respectfully asking that the media await official word through these channels before speculating (mostly inaccurately) on his condition. Rumors about amputating his leg are completely fabricated. As we shared yesterday, Tracy had surgery on his broken leg. We are working closely with the incredible staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to share information when it is available. This recovery will be arduous and we hope that you can be patient during this difficult time. Thank you.”
Also, as we reported earlier the truck driver Kevin Roper, who is suspected to have caused the accident, was scheduled to appear in court this morning. That date has now been pushed to Wednesday morning. He’s still facing vehicular homicide charges as police claim Roper went more than 24 hours without sleep and was fatigued behind the wheel, unable to react and avoid the accident. Actions considered a criminal offense New Jersey, (and more commonly known as Maggie’s Law).
Unfortunately, there’s not much of an update on Morgan’s assistant Jeff or comedian Ardie Fuqua. The NYC comedy scene has shown an great outpouring of support for Fuqua, a comedian whom everyone seems to like and appreciate. His friends have set up a form where you can leave messages of support for Ardie and they’ll read them to him at the hospital.
We also find it a bit disturbing that during the timing of all of this, the Senate is currently working on relaxing mandatory driver restrictions that combat trucker fatigue. Potentially making roads a bit more dangerous out there. I know of a few people today that might find this disturbing.
Update #9 [Monday 10:32am]: The most serious of Morgan’s injuries appears to be his leg. There’s a rumor that Morgan opted to under go extra surgeries and risk partial paralysis than have his leg amputated. Currently, the only report citing this information is from MediaTakeout, who cites a conversation they had with one of the nurses taking care of Morgan at Robert Wood Johnson hospital.
[Tracy’s] leg is in very bad condition. He has fractured ribs as well as internal bleeding in his abdomen. [While] amputation is an option, he is opting to [keep his leg and] deal with the partial paralysis. But with physical therapy he [could] regain feeling. However nothing is for certain.
He remains optimistic and is in good spirits. He is on monitored IV medication. He suffered a concussion, a couple of broken bones. But he [might] make a full recovery with time. He is more concerned about the others than himself.
He expressed his concerns regarding the charges that were brought on the driver, and is adamant that it was an accident.
His family is with him, and he remains in good spirits. They are having a trauma surgeon come in from jersey shore medical center. He will need surgeries. But he remains positive. He is stable, but is obviously suffering from pain.
And his injuries are serious. But as for the amputation. That is not an option for him.
Update #8 [Monday 9:45am]: Kevin Roper, the Walmart truck driver blamed for the highway pileup is due in court this morning (Monday) to face charges of vehicular homicide, assault, and reckless driving. The criminal complaint states that Roper (35) was behind the wheel of the tractor trailer “without having slept for a period in excess of 24 hours.”
Update #7: Reports are Morgan is more responsive today than he was yesterday. He underwent surgery this morning to fix a broken leg. His reps are encouraged.
Morgan’s rep Lewis Kay stated to The Wrap, “He sustained a number of injuries including a broken leg, a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs. He had surgery earlier today on his leg. We expect him to remain in the hospital for several weeks. His family is tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
Update #6: Morgan’s ex-wife and mother of three of his children, Sabina Morgan told The Daily Mail “He’s not in good shape. I’m traumatized. I’m so upset. I can’t believe it. It’s like I’m in a nightmare.” She added, “We’re just still vigilant with prayer…They’re (our children) not holding up well at all.” They also revealed that Morgan’s leg was also broken but doctors expect him to make a recovery.
Additionally, Walmart President Bill Simmon issued a statement confirming it was their driver’s involvement in the accident, adding, “Walmart will take full responsibility” it authorities determine that the company’s truck caused the accident. “We’re praying for the family and friends of the passenger who lost his life in the terrible accident,” the statement said. “Our hearts go out to everyone involved and we hope those who were injured get the care that they need and make a full recovery.”
Update #5: Police have charged 35-year-old Kevin Roper of Jonesboro, GA with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto according to the Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and New Jersey State Police Superintendant Col. Joseph Fuentes. His bail was set for $50,000.
Roper was driving a Walmart tractor trailer and failed to notice slow moving traffic, slamming into the limo bus holding Morgan, Fuqua, Stanton, and others.
The NY Post is reporting that Morgan, has “A brace on his neck, but he’s smiling,” according to a friend of the comedian’s ex-wife who accompanied her to the hospital.
Update #4: Unconfirmed update is that Tracy, Ardie and Tracy’s assistant Jeff Mellia are amongst those in critical condition. Also heard that Harris Stanton suffered a broken wrist but will be fine and was released from the hospital.
Update #3: Tracy Morgan’s reps have released the following statement, confirming details and revealing little update on the comedian’s status.
“Tracy remains in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. He sustained these injuries in an accident that occurred early this morning as one of several passengers in a chauffeured SUV returning from a tour date in Delaware. His family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care. We don’t anticipate much of a change in his condition today but will provide a further update once more information becomes available.”
Update #2: Reports confirm James McNair, 63, of Peekskill, NY was the fatal victim of the crash. State police also confirmed that all of the injuries from the accident were from the limo bus, which means that Fuqua and Stanton might be among the injured.
There’s also more clarity about the actual accident. It occurred around 1am Saturday morning as a Walmart tractor trailer rear-ended the limo bus in slow moving traffic in the northbound lane of the NJ Turnpike around exit 8A. The impact was so severe, the limo bus driver side of the vehicle was ripped away, the limo bus then overturned into the other vehicles. Authorities closed the road for nearly 5 hours and re-opened it around 6:30am this morning.
Here’s some raw footage from NBC10 Philadelphia showing the van and tractor trailer.

Christopher Thompson, owner of limo bus operator Atlantic Transportation Services, said the black eight passenger Mercedes Sprinter had two drivers on board. One was behind the wheel and another in the front passenger seat. Thompson said both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but were shaken up by the crash.
Last night Fuqua posted images of the their show in Dover on his instagram account showing both him and Morgan at the show. One of the images contained Fuqua standing outside of the limo bus itself.
Update #1: Reports are that the deceased is James “Uncle Jimmy Mack” McNair, one of Morgan’s mentors. We’ve also learned that comedians Ardie Fuqua and Harris Stanton were also on the bus with Morgan at the time of the accident, no word on their status.
This is bad news to report. Tracy Morgan is in critical condition after a six-vehicle accident in New Jersey early Saturday morning. Including Morgan’s limo bus, two tractor trailers, two cars, and an SUV. It appears he was on his way home after performing at a show at Dover Downs in Delaware.
Morgan was riding in a limo bus when the accident happened in Mercer County. His limo bus was rear-ended by a tractor trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville, overturning the limo bus.
Preliminary details are limited but Morgan’s limo bus was the only vehicle that overturned, leaving one dead, three in critical, and one in fair condition. It’s believed that the one killed was on the limo bus, which means it might’ve been a member of Morgan’s entourage.
Police do not believe alcohol had anything to do with the accident but it’s under investigation.
The victims were brought to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where spokesman, Peter Haigney said four patients are being treated there. Haigney stated a man named Tracy Morgan was among those in critical condition, but citing privacy laws, declined to confirm it is the comedian/actor. State Police later confirmed it was Morgan.
We wish Morgan, who has a fiance and very young baby girl at home, and everyone else in the accident a speedy recovery. We’ll update this story with details as we learn them.
