Have you met Ted?
Looks like CBS is looking to spin off it’s popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother. It appears the rumors are true and make total sense for the network. Though the network dominates in the ratings, HIMYM is one of the few actually watchable sitcoms the channel has. It’s also one of the few sitcoms with an appeal to a younger crowd.
HIMYM will end its run this season, the show’s ninth. A season that almost didn’t happen because its stars are not only in high demand for other projects, as shows get older, they get more expensive to create.
So as HIYM wraps, the network is in talks of a spin-off. The popular opinion being a long thought of idea to tell the other side of the story of how the mother came to meet Ted Mosby. Told through her point of view and her different group of friends.
The creative team of HIMYM would remain largely intact with co-creators/executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas writing and executive producing the project, tentatively titled, How I Met Your Father, with Up All Night creator/EP Emily Spivey also involved.
With this season ending, they could easily introduce spin off characters and there’s also rumors that the gang’s favorite watering hole, McLaren’s Pub could be featured. Which, is probably just a vehicle to stage creative ways to have Ted, Barney, Marshal, Robin, and Lilly make future cameos yet not interact with the new cast.
