Check out the trailer for Netflix’s “Is It Cake?,” hosted by Mikey Day

March 8, 2022      Andrew Buss      News

Saturday Night Live has a history of parodying game shows, by featuring shows that are ever-so-slightly off that they become funny. But what happens when a real competition show shares an uncanny resemblance to what SNL would parody? And what if the host of the show was a current cast member, even further blurring the line between reality and fiction?

That’s the case with the new Mikey Day hosted Netflix game show Is It Cake?. The premise? Celebrity contestants have to figure out if an object is an actual object or cake. At the end of the show, the baker that most successfully fools the panelists walks home with cash. If it sounds familiar, it’s because it started out as a meme. All that being said, the show seems like it has some potential to also effectively be a send-up of game shows that take itself too seriously. Plus the cakes look delicious!

Is It Cake? premieres on March 18th.
