“Cheers” celebrated its 30th anniversary of the finale with a mini-reunion

May 19, 2023      Andrew Buss      News, Television

Hard to believe it’s been 30 years this week since Cheers went off the year. The show concluded on May 20th, 1993 after 11 years on the air. While there’s been many reunions over the years, there was a unique one recently.

Simultaneously, collector James Comisar will soon be auctioning over 1,000 pieces of props and memorabilia at Heritage Auctions Headquarters in Dallas, Texas. One of the items is the iconic bar from the show. Ahead of the big auction next month, he reunited George Wendt and John Ratzenberger.

“It was fantastic, so great to see the bar,” remarked Wendt.

“I was personally pleased that they weren’t throwing it away and burning it,” Ratzenberger says. “Because in Hollywood, that’s mostly what happens. They’ll take a beautiful set down, and just throw it in a rubbish heap.”

The bar is now up to over $100,000 and will continue to rise. More information about the auction – which starts June 2nd and concludes June 4th – and all the items available can be found here.
