After plenty of speculation, it has now been made official, Chelsea Handler will be leaving Chelsea Lately once her contract wraps up. Handler’s manager, Irving Azoff, made the announcement official, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires. She hired me to figure out her life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.” Azoff also mentioned that plans could include, radio and some form of another late night show with a different network.
While it is a big deal to see someone pack up and leave their own show after eight years, Handler has made her frustrations clear. Back on May 5th she made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show and discussed her dissatisfaction with E!, “They don’t know what they are doing. They have no ideas. It’s a failure.”
So where does E! stand on all of this? Well, they seem to be staying in the shadows saying, “Chelsea has nine months left on her contract and E! will not comment on the future of Chelsea Lately at this time.” Hard to blame them too. After those shots Handler fired at them, it makes sense to just stand back, instead of giving her any more ammunition.
