February 26, 2021 Andrew Buss Features, In Memoriam
Another sad loss for the comedy community. On Wednesday, comedian Erik Myers was struck by a van in Texas, where he was in town doing a weekend of gigs at Hyena’s Comedy Club in Dallas. He was 40 years old.
Throughout his career, Myers had appeared on Gotham City Live, Laughs, Andrew Dice Clay Presents The Blue Show, and Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen. Myers also created an animated pilot titled Court Ordered that featured many of his comedian friends. And his stand-up special, Dopeless Romantic, debuted on Hulu in 2013. He was a paid regular at The Comedy Store and spent a lot of his time touring comedy clubs throughout the country.
After his passing was made public, many of his friends and the comedy community in general took to social media to pay their respects to Myers.
We're incredibly sad to announce the passing of Paid Regular Erik Myers. The energy he brought to the stage was always matched by the audience’s laughter. Rest easy Erik and make Mitzi laugh for us. pic.twitter.com/ymP9Zr1lTy

Erik Myers was a comedic FORCE. He would destroy a room. I’ll miss watching him get a standing ovation then innocently ask “How did I do?” I’ll miss hearing him say “BRADLEYS!” when we saw each other. I’ll just miss him. Do yourself a favor and watch his stuff. Rest in power pal pic.twitter.com/W1DC9CGie6

Oh man. That sucks about Erik Myers. He opened for me a few times. When I first met him in Florida, I was like who is this guy. He quickly won me over and he always destroyed on stage. I’ll miss sharing nachos with him. #RIP

We should all be as kind as Erik Myers was to me when I was a total comedy newbie and he brought me to all of the open mics and helped me write one of my first jokes: “I was sober for 15 years, and then I turned 16.” He was kind, genuine, and hilarious. Rest easy, Erik. pic.twitter.com/2Z1gBcyBc2

Erik Myers was amazing. We lived together for a short time. He helped me a lot, he would always pick up the phone when I was feeling so low. He was one of the funniest acts I ever saw on stage and I hope his family knows how much he was loved pic.twitter.com/xg1YKG8ISn

So sad to hear about Erik Myers. An absolute force on stage. We hung a lot early on in our careers and he was always so much fun to be around. I hope you’ve found peace, my brother. Godspeed

Erik Myers was one of the kindest people to me when I started stand up. His only mission in life was to make people laugh. He fought so many demons in his time here on earth & losing him like this is such a devastating blow to the comedy community. I hope you find peace my friend pic.twitter.com/wRaAubcYDq

The scratchiest shriek of a voice, the most energy one could exert on a stage, and a genuine understanding that every audience deserved the best show ever. #rip Erik Myers. You killed every goddamn time we did a show together.

1/2) erik myers was one of the funniest people i've ever seen perform. whether it was a dead open mic or a big show, he brought down the room and had everyone crying laughing. he killed. he was so naturally funny, a character, but his joke writing was also impeccable. pic.twitter.com/rgsogs621Z

He had a brilliant mind and a real gift for making people laugh. He always made time for a visit when he was in AZ. I just wish his time on earth wasn’t so hard.
We just talked a month ago about doing shows together soon.
You’ll be missed, Erik Myers. Damn it, this sucks. pic.twitter.com/fPHlXVWqPa

Watched Erik Myers just annihilate rooms, dude would destroy the place, always the best set. The kinda sets that would turn most people into assholes, but he would talk to everyone like a close friend. Kind and egoless and hilarious (pretty rare). Rest easy man pic.twitter.com/xB7AOLoOBp
