On the final episode of its inaugural run, Chris Hardwick announced that @Midnight was picked up for another round of shows. Hardwick delivered the news shortly into the game stating, “This was an experiment we did for a month. You guys watched, you joined in the hashtag wars and we are so, so, so, so, grateful.”
The show has been renewed for 40 weeks and will fire back up on January 6th. 40 weeks is a long commitment from Comedy Central, but with it being a daily show and probably having a minimal overhead by its structure it financially makes sense. Given it’s strong lead-in block from John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s doing great in the ratings and is the 3rd highest rated show in late night, on cable or broadcast TV averaging 624,000 viewers per night.
Last night Paul Scheer won the game so he’s officially the winner of the internet until January 6th. Paul, time to defend your title. Congrats to Chris Hardwick and all involve with the show!
