Tribeca Enterprises teamed up with Comedy Dynamics for four new drive-in stand-up specials, filmed at the Rose Bowl in Hollywood in July 2020. Filmed over the course of four days as part of Tribeca’s Drive-In Series, the specials featured comedians Dave Helem, Ester Steinberg, Daniel Webb, and Erica Rhodes. All four specials were directed by Brian Volk-Weiss, and executive produced by Cisco Henson and Tribeca, with Michael Epstein serving as producer.
“After the postponement of our festival, we were quick to mobilize and launch Tribeca Drive-In. It was important for us to provide an outlet for communities, frontline workers and families when people were suffering and needed a healing escape. Our partnership with Comedy Dynamics was a natural fit to offer audiences access to these outstanding performers.” Stated COO of Tribeca Pete Torres.
“Filming a live comedy show during COVID proved to be one of the most difficult things this company has ever done, but with the help of the fantastic team at Tribeca, all 4 shows were a total success. We’re excited to share these brilliant specials with the world!” said Brian Volk-Weiss, Founder and CEO of Comedy Dynamics.
Check out the official synopsis of all four specials below.
Dave Helem D.J. The Chicago Kid – Release Date: March 23rd
DJ the Chicago Kid, taped during a pandemic at the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, is an hour-long roller coaster of things that have made Dave Helem who he is, both good and bad. The comedian and former math teacher’s laid back style of storytelling and vivid imagination takes us on a journey of topics that range from his glory days in the classroom, how protesting doesn’t look the same for everyone, and why he won’t go back to Canada. This debut album is one not to be missed.
“I was feeling all types of emotion knowing that I was going to be doing an hour of stand up at a time when I hadn’t really been on stage in months due to the pandemic. I was nervous about that, but once I got on stage, it felt like riding a bike, and I was immediately taken back to my comfort zone of stand up comedy. I loved every minute of it,” said Dave Helem.
Ester Steinberg Burning Bush – Release Date: March 30th
In her postpartum pandemic special, comedian Ester Steinberg jokes about a risqué photoshoot and a wild bachelorette weekend, and shares stories from her first year of marriage, and giving birth in the epicenter of a global pandemic.
“I was six weeks postpartum when we shot the special and to answer your follow up question, yes I was wearing two pairs of Spanx. I am so excited to share this special with the world but especially moms in the pandemic who I assure you are desperate for a laugh,” said Ester Steinberg.
Daniel Webb Hoe’s Parade Live at the Rose Bowl – Release Date: April 6th
In Hoe’s Parade, Daniel Webb brings queer comedy, piano magic and a stunning head of hair to the Rose Bowl stage. In addition to singing like dogshit, Daniel describes his harrowing and slutty Covid-19 survival stories, rails against the negligent former president and his ugly children, sings about men who lie about STDs and about Breonna Taylor’s murderers, who are still walking the streets. Hoe’s Parade is a celebration of life, where Daniel proudly makes world history as the first queer gay man to perform stand up comedy live at the Rose Bowl.
“I feel so lucky to have been the first queer person to perform comedy at the Rose Bowl, but they really should’ve given me a trophy,” said Daniel Webb.
Erica Rhodes La Vie en Rhodes – Release Date: April 13th
Erica Rhodes brings her confessional comedy style to the legendary Rose Bowl for her very first special, La Vie en Rhodes. With topics like non-motivational quotes, emoji etiquette, political correctness, bad grammar, and narcissistic exes, Erica highlights the absurd in all of life’s struggles.
“I was so grateful I was able to shoot a special during the strangest of times. La Vie en Rhodes is proof that the show and life both… go on,” said Erica Rhodes.
All four specials will be released on a rolling basis starting on March 23rd, and can be found on Amazon Prime Video, Spectrum, Apple TV, Comcast, Dish, Google Play, Youtube, Vimeo, and more.
