Here’s some news Community fans have been waiting 6 years for. The 6 seasons and a movie wish is finally coming true!
Today, Peacock announced that it has greenlit a new Community movie. Series creator Dan Harmon will return to write the film alongside Andrew Guest.
The show will also reunite only some of the original cast, including Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong. Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, and Yvette Nicole Brown are not slated to appear. But hopefully some sort of cameo will still be worked out!
“‘Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line from Community‘s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” NBC Universal Television’s Chairman of Entertainment Susan Rovner said in a statement. “We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.”
The idea of #6seasonsandamovie started within the show, inspired by Abed’s obsession with Cougar Town. The show’s fans quickly followed suit, and it became not only a desire to get a movie, but to keep the series from being canceled, as there were multiple times that it’s demise seemed likely.
No plot details are available yet. But it’s just good to know that a movie is finally officially on the horizon.
