Dana Carvey Releases New Sketch From His Upcoming Show

Last week Dana Carvey released a sketch titled“Weird Island” which poked fun of confusing plot lines of Lost. This week Carvey and his partner Spike Feresten released yet another sketch from there forthcoming Fox show Spoof. The new skit called “Darwin” makes fun of movies like Sherlock Holmes which turn cerebral literary characters into macho action stars.
Is it funny? Well depends, it isn’t particularly “blow your mind and pee your pants funny”, but it has a certain comedy charm to it which is certainly signature Carvey as of late. For anyone not exactly sure what that means, think of it as somewhere between “Chopping Broccoli” and “Master of Disguise“. It’s not the exactly the offbeat comedic genius of Carvey’s SNL days, but on the other hand it isn’t the steaming turd sandwich of “Master of Disguise”. Carvey slaps on the make up and delivers some tame (remember its still network TV) satire comedy.
Take a look at the video for yourself, oh and by the way comedy nerds will recognize the priest in the sketch as Brian McCann, a long time writer for Conan O’Brien.
