If you haven’t heard much new material from Dane Cook it’s because he hasn’t performed or written any new comedy material since this past February in addition he’s also not really looking to pick the mic back up anytime soon. Stating, “I’m at that point where it’s like, I’ve done so much with stand-up comedy, and I’ve taken it everywhere I’ve wanted to take it.”
I don’t want to say I’ve retired, but this is an important time to shift my energy into something new… If I’m going to gonna do stand-up again — I respect the art form so much, it’s glamorous to me — and if I partake in it again, I want to feel like I’m lending something to it.” [LA Times]
The LA Times profile revealed the comedian’s desire for a hiatus stemmed from his desire to focus on his indie film, Answers To Nothing and his forthcoming NBC sitcom that is set to premiere in the fall 2012. It also revealed his desire to head dramatic territory after stints in Mr. Brooks and Dan In Real Life separated him from his earlier comedy films. The article also took a deeper dive into some of the tougher moments of Cook’s life including the loss of his parents and financial troubles brought on by his half brother and how he’s managed to put it all behind him. A solid read for people that like to read.
