Comedy Central has a new king, and no it’s not who you think. Young (but very funny) comedian Daniel Tosh has taken a lot of people by surprise with his internet variety show Tosh.0.
Tosh’s show, which features funny commentary on an assortment of viral internet videos, has been clocking in a solid 2.2 million viewers per week. To put into perspective what a juggernaut Tosh is becoming, his 2.2 million beats out The Daily Show‘s 2 million and The Colbert Report’s 1.6 million viewers per day, making them third on the network behind Futurama and South Park.
Tosh does have some pretty big shoes to fill considering he is prime time, and in the spot once occupied by Chappelle Show.
Of course it is worth considering that Tosh beating Stewart and Colbert has a lot to do with the fact that he is in prime time while the other two hosts are considered late night.
This still doesn’t mean Tosh’s show doesn’t deserve the ratings. The guy is legitimately very funny and his shows success was garnered largely through word of mouth on the internet. Something that is very web 2.0.
