Last year, HBO brought us a new series called The Righteous Gemstones. The series revolves around a family of televangelists and pastors for megachurches in South Carolina, where it was also filmed. Rounding out the cast for the show is creator Danny McBride, Adam DeVine, Edi Patterson, and John Goodman. The reviews were overall generally favorable and it wound up being picked up for a season 2.
And now, in a recent interview with GoldDerbyGold Derby, McBride has announced plans for a possible Christmas movie.
“We have a script and HBO’s into it and we’re into it, but we’ll see if we’re able to pull it off. Because of some actors’ availability and some stuff, we really won’t be shooting the second season until the beginning of next year, but in the meantime, to get our crew back to work and to give audiences another piece of the Gemstones, since they won’t get it this year, I’ve written a Christmas special that we’re going to try to shoot and it will be an hour long and about a two-week shoot, so hopefully, we get to do it!”
No official details are available yet, obviously. But it would be some great new content to look forward to during the holiday season!
